Baby quilt

I dont do much quilting by myself but thought i would give it a try for this baby quilt. It was semi sucessful, no obvious tucks but not really as flat as I would have liked! Its all a learning curve right? This baby quilt is for a very neutral nursery, with a touch of pink. Just a little nine patch quilt that grew as I made it.

Pretty pleased with the print I found for the back.

I must say it was a bit of " digging in and doing the hard yards" to finish this top. i got so close then things went a bit pear shaped, which necessitated some unpicking. This would have been ok but with some of the fabrics I had, it was a disaster. But first the finished top

Finishing at 75" x 90", it actually is the perfect size for my 6'5 son. After needing to unpick a few ( read multiple) times to get my squares in the right order ( it never ceases to amaze me that you can have 40+ different fabrics and yet still have them randomly end up in the same spot in a row), I discovered that some of the fabrics I'd chosen, which had a looser weave, fell apart as I unpicked them. This of course led me to having to totally remove them from their rows. sigh....

Lesson learnt!
But I really loved this pattern so I will be trying it again.

So I have begun a new quilt for one of my boys, piecing 96 strips and then cutting them up again. By the end there will be nearly a 1000 squares....in fact I'm tempted to add some on the back to get to the milestone!

Quilted, bound and gifted! Finished on my holiday to visit family on the Far North Coast of NSW....so wet and so green!

My Mum has a regular visitor who lives under the outside light, and has a buffet each night

He can watch the telly from there, too!

Managed to get my quilt top together and was pretty pleased with it, really. It was a fun block to piece, and I enjoyed matching up the fabrics as I went along. If I made this quilt again, next time I think I'd make the blocks with the darks and lights in the same places in the block, rather than alternate the lights and darks.

It's been lovely to have some rain lately and to see some things actually growing in the garden. My daughter has a green thumb and planted some sweetpeas for me when she was home during the isolation period. So excited to see them grow and with any luck, bloom soon.

Big heart quilt

There hasn't been much time for quilting lately, but it's amazing what you can accomplish, when you have a deadline! Ha ha

My Gorgeous Girl turned 18 last month, so I quickly threw together this quilt for her. Went together easily, and pretty well, and I was happy with how it turned out (even if I did have to machine on the binding at the last minute!...Something I don't do well.)

Hard to believe I've been parenting for 18 years!....

Finished for my teenage boy and his king single bed. He’s 14 and now 6” , and likes to affectionately pat my head as he walks past as to say “Hello,Shorty”. Cheeky kid!

Tilda Applecore Quilt DONE

One quilt from my list done...which was actually supposed to be for Christmas, so I’m running very late!

I bit the bullet and did my first “curvy” binding after a lesson at Cottage On The Hill. Was heaps easier than I thought it was going to be!

Even the new cat, Smudge, likes this one!

So it’s now been gifted and onto the next one.....

2.Quilt top started during my son’s recovery from a tonsillectomy. Sometimes a forced break can be lovely, as I had a week in Newcastle as that’s our closest ENT.

Sadness

On a family weekend away, in early June, my husband of 19years passed away in a tragic accident.

It is like someone has taken to my life with a sledge hammer.

Thank goodness for family and friends and their care and support.

Hi! Long time no write.
Here's my list for the 2nd quarter. It's interesting, as I've looked back over previous lists, I do actually finish some things...others just linger on!
The quilt I have been working on for my older boy...

And various quilt tops...that have wonky borders, so I need to unpick them and get those suckers flat! Ha ha

I have not touched a sewing machine in 6months,so to say I'm being optimistic with this list is an understatement!

1. My bee quilt..only needs binding now!

Scrappy boy's eye spy quilt

Just before Christmas, Julie from Jewell's Quilting quilted three tops for me...some that had been waiting to be completed for yonks (an official unit of measure! 😜)

So I got the binding on the Eye Spy Quilt that I made earlier in the year to decrease my scraps. Making it a finish for this Quarters Finish-a-long! Woo hoo!

Helpfully held up by Sunshine Boy who tells me (between whinging) that he's get quite an expert at the gig! 

I was determined to use fabric from my stash for the binding so I picked this two tone blue chevron...and then had to try match stripes...I was quite proud of how I did, actually!

I machined the binding on, which I never seem to do very successfully, but I was in a rush. Think I'll go back to the longer process of hand sewing next time.
