Why quilting is not like childbirth..

Unfortunately quilting is not like having a baby.
When you have a baby, you look at this funny little squished, red, swollen faced little human being - and even if you have a hubby like mine, who's saying such delightful things like, "where is his chin?", "look at the shape of his feet" etc etc - you are just filled with this amazing feeling that this child is the most beautiful child in the world. You forget the pain, the morning sickness, the kicks into an already susceptible bladder and the joys of delivering an 11 pound child, and you are just filled with this sense of wonder. Yay, for those post-natal hormones! (and don't ask me how you can have "the most beautiful child in the world' four times!)

Quilting is not like this. I have finally finished my charm quilt and it has been such a long, frustrating process - filled with a huge amount of unpicking - ridiculous amounts of unpicking - that even though I think it's turned out OK, I still don't love it.

There just aint no post-quilt-finish hormones..which is probably lucky as there is enough hormones in this little black duck as it is!

It is to be used for an auction item for our school ball...and I'm wondering how long it will be before someone notices those "interesting" squares.

So it is a quilt I will happily say "adios' to...
Do you have a quilt/project like this too?
bye..

  1. Hi Sheryl, I think you've done a lovely job. Your quilting is becoming sooo accomplished! I too have had a few projects that have stopped being fun .... they usually end up at the back of the quilting cupboard, unfinished, so I admire your perserverence. It was worth it in the end!

  2. WOW!! Looks gorgeous....don't you just SOMETIMES release lots of endorphins when the quilt is finished??? :).....this one qualifies as an endorphine-releasing accomplishment in my books!

  3. WOW!! Sheryl, that is absolutely magnificent. I would be so thrilled to win that quilt. I have similar fabric sitting waiting for me to come up with an idea. Thanks to you I now know. I bet you stressed because it was for someone else. They are the hardest quilts to get finished I think. Well done!! You're a star ha ha.
